Sky Brazil must pay $6M to use 2.5 GHz band for broadband

The Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) set a R$ 9.5 million (US $6 million) price for 2.5 GHz band spectrum so TV Filme Brasília, which belongs to Sky Group, can use the band for multimedia communication services (MCS).

This authorization will enable the company to offer broadband services in Brazil‘s capital Brasília. Some local media have speculated that the company could base its offer on LTE technology.

The company will also have to pay another R$ 5.6 million (US $3.5 million) to renew its authorization for distribution service multichannel multipoint (MMDS) spectrum, signed in 2009.
