HTC acquires S3 Graphics for $300M

HTC Corp. is adding 235 patents to its war chest in a $300 million deal to acquire S3 Graphics Co. Ltd. from VIA Technologies Inc. S3’s patents cover a range of graphics visualization technologies used in PCs, gaming consoles and mobile devices, the company said.
Earlier this year, HTC invested in Saffron Digital’s content delivery platform and acquired a stake in OnLive, a cloud gaming company.
The transaction, which already has received approvals from the boards of directors, is expected to close before the end of the year.
