TNS AGREEMENT FACILITATES CDPD FOR REMOTE USERS

BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile and Transaction Network Services Inc. announced a pilot agreement that will allow TNS customers in remote locations to access its network through the company’s AirBridge Cellular Digital Packet Data services.

In order to offer customers end-to-end service, TNS will purchase airtime directly from Bell Atlantic Nynex. TNS is headquartered in Reston, Va., and provides data communications services for transaction-oriented applications.

The CDPD airlink, which is encrypted for data security, is useful for merchants and vendors who do not have access to a telephone line, such as outdoor malls, taxis and cruise ships.

“We believe that the combination of the Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile network, with its extensive coverage and capabilities, and the TNS network will meet our customers’ needs by providing a superior, cost-effective CDPD service to the transaction processing marketplace,” said Brian Bates, senior vice president and general manager of TNS’ POS division.
