NEW YORK – After taking some time to check out the demo units of the new CDMA version of the iPhone 4, RCR Wireless News caught up with Ross Rubin, executive director of industry analysis at NPD Group. Rubin talked about the confidence Verizon Wireless is showing in its 3G network by offering hotspot capability on the device at launch, which contrasts with how long it took AT&T Mobility to open up the tethering option to its iPhone customers last year. He also expects this new iPhone 4 to primarily attract Verizon Wireless customers, though he does expect some customers to leave their existing carriers to go with an iPhone on Verizon’s network as well.
