Infrastructure awards wrap-up: Cisco and Nokia Siemens Networks

The following list details this week's infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular

--Africa: Africell has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks to modernize its core networks in Sierra Leone and Gambia. The project includes the company’s 3GPP mobile softswitching solution.

WiMAX

--Georgia: Cisco Systems said it was chosen by MagtiCom to provide an end-to-end broadband solution for the carrier’s mobile WiMAX service.

-- Kazakhstan: AsiaBell launched a broadband mobile WiMAX service in central Kazakhstan using a solution from Cisco Systems.

-- Russia: Cisco Systems said it provided mobile WiMAX network technology for Scartel’s Yota-branded service in the Sadovoye Ring in Moscow and at the Vassilyevsky Island and Petrogradsky District in St. Petersburg. Cisco is providing a DWDM optical transport solution as well as a high-speed MPLS data network and data center technologies.
