Small cell advancements coming at Mobile World Congress

San Jose, Calif.-based SpiderCloud Wireless today announced a new line of small cell products that feature carrier aggregation, low-energy Bluetooth beacons and virtualized functions, among other upgrades.

SpiderCloud rolled out the new features ahead of Mobile World Congress, set for March 2-5 in Barcelona, Spain.

The updated small cells have dual-band radio nodes that allow for simultaneous 3G and LTE service or two-carrier LTE. Carrier aggregation peak rates are supported up to 300 Mbps.

The Bluetooth-integrated radio nodes help the small cell owner with inventory management and system maintenance.

“With the success of our award-winning dual-band radio node, we continue to innovate to help our customers differentiate and win with our small cell systems,” Behrooz Parsay, VP of engineers and operations, said in a statement.

“GSMA’s MWC is the perfect conference for us to unveil new small cell products innovations and we look forward to a week of great customer and partner meetings.

Founded in 1995, Groupe Speciale Mobile Association is a trade group for mobile operators and related businesses. GSMA’s Mobile World Congress is the biggest annual industry event.

SpiderCloud’s new dual-band radio nodes can support two LTE operators on 5, 10, 15 and 20 MHz channels with a peak rate of 150 Mbps per band.

Voice over LTE operators can maintain separation of data traffic while still sharing band space with other LTE operators.

“SpiderCloud is raising the bar,” said Amit Jain, VP of product management.

“Our focus is to support our customers’ immediate and future needs, with support for carrier aggregation, flexible radios, low-power Bluetooth, multi-operator RAN and more.”

SpiderCloud’s small cell LAN solutions are used by carriers including Verizon, Vodafone UK and Vodafone Netherlands.
