Motorola Inc. unveiled the XTS 3000, its next generation portable radio. The XTS 3000 is smaller than the Astro Saber portable and has several enhancements. The radio comes in two models: the XTS 3000 Model I, a pure talk-and-listen radio, and a similar model, the XTS 3000 Model III, which includes several upgrades. Both models are available in conventional, Smartnet, Securenet and SmartZone system configurations. The radio offers both single and dual encryption. (847) 576-1000.

Allen Telecom Group Inc. introduced a new dB Diamond antenna which combines the PCS frequency and the cellular frequency into one interior antenna. Like other dB Diamond antennas, the dual band version has a uniform mounting plate that allows antennas with different coverage patterns to be changed without adding more brackets or drilling more holes. The new model has a vertical polarization and a vertical beamwidth of 360 degrees for complete radio frequency propagation inside a building. For improved voice connections, the antennas have a voltage wave standing ration or 1.5: 1. (214) 631-0310.

Glenayre Technologies Inc. announced Messaging on Demand and Digital Networking systems are among the messaging enhancements to X.5, the latest software release for its Modular Voice Processing System. Messaging on Demand allows wireless and wireline subscribers who do not have a voice mailbox to receive messages. The MVP System asks the caller to leave a name, message and callback number and stores the information in a virtual mailbox. The system then calls the subscriber to deliver the message. Digital networking allows seamless voice messaging between MVP Systems on a wide area basis. Without making a wireless call, a subscriber can send a voice message to a co-worker in another city, and the MVP System will automatically forward the message. Additional enhancements include Canned Messaging Paging, which allows brief messages such as “call home” to be delivered to a subscriber’s handset or alphanumeric pager, and Mailbox Full Enhancement, which prompts a caller to enter a callback number when the subscriber’s voice mailbox is full. Cablewave Systems, a division of Radio Frequency Systems Inc., introduced two new products. The Self-Clamp type N and 7/16 DIN connectors for half-inch superflexible cable are designed to meet the most critical wireless applications. The connectors are waterproof, solderless and easy to install, said the company. The new premium performance low VSWR jumper cable assemblies, Flexwell low loss foam and half-inch Flexwell, are tested for a maximum VSWR of 1.2: 1 across both cellular and personal communication service bands. Motorola Inc. recently introduced the MICOM-2 HF-SSB Digital Signal Processing Station, featuring Digital Signal Processing technology. The MICOM-2 meets U.S. military and Industrial Standards EIA RS152B and MIL-STD 810C/D/E for adverse environmental conditions without the use of external shock mounts. It is available in both commercial and marine versions. (888) 838-8838.

Trident Micro Systems introduced the Metro Messenger Mobile Data Terminal and companion Windows 95 Dispatch Manager software. The Metro Messenger features a high visibility Vacuum Fluorescent Display, and is designed to be interfaced to most two-way radios. Peripherals supported by the Metro Messenger include a Credit/ATM card reader and a Global Positioning System receiver for AVL applications. The Dispatch Manager software features support for messages, multiple message priority levels, fleet status at a glance and mapping software for vehicle location. (800) 798-7881.

ServiceAlert Inc., an on-site paging manufacturer, announced the 7100M Paging Tower, a UHF wireless messaging transmitter which enables any device with an external communications port to send full text messages within three seconds. The 7100M Paging Tower supports 2 million cap codes and a 2,000 character message, as well as the Comp 2 and TAP paging protocols. The product allows page messages to be sent simultaneously from up to 96 separate systems, enabling office buildings, hospitals, manufacturing facilities, MIS departments and retail stores to “page enable” an entire building or campus setting. ServiceAlert is seeking value-added re-sellers and dealers to promote the new product. (800) 366-4083.

Orbcomm Global L.P. announced it has granted type approval to a new model of commercial subscriber communicator from Kyushu Matsushita Electric Co. Ltd. of Fukuoka, Japan. The Panasonic KX-G7001 Subscriber Communicator is designed to provide two-way data communications in transportation and other applications where the ability to track assets with high accuracy is critical. It is equipped with an RS-232 port, and it can receive Global Positioning Satellite system signals. (800) ORBCOMM.

CommScope Inc., a division or General Instrument Corp., introduced Cell Reach, a high performance, low-loss 50-ohm coaxial cable designed specifically for wireless transmission systems. Cell Reach is manufactured through a process which combines a smooth-wall copper outer conductor and a high-strength closed micro-cell foam dielectric. The cable is triple bonded for electrical and mechanical stability. (800) 982-1708.

Joslyn Electronic Systems Corp. announced the Surgitron PMT surge protector for the wireless, cellular, personal communication services and microwave industries. The Surgitron PMT includes a unique SAD/Thermally Fused MOV technology, power feed through design and multistate remote monitoring. It can report all events remotely via a variety of interfaces, including a dial-up modem. (800) 752-8068.

Tokyo-based Real Object Oriented Technologies introduced the Rz95001, a complete spread spectrum high speed data communication unit that can be used in normal to harsh environments where data security and accuracy are required to be transmitted over distances up to a half mile. The RZ95001 modem product provides simple operation and employs direct sequence spread spectrum technology with eight selectable data rates from 174 Kbps up to 2 Mbps. Both QPSK and BPSK modulation are available depending on the data rate. 81-3-5952-9446.

Motorola Inc.’s Americas Service Division launched its first disaster recovery service specifically designed for operators of two-way radio systems. The service addresses a broad range of potential disasters that may compromise a two-way radio’s performance including lightning, flooding, fire and vandalism. A unique plan is devised for each customer including the exact equipment, personnel and logistics that would be required to make the system operational after a disaster. The system was field tested in Virginia Beach, Va., this spring. (847) 576-1000.
