Apple Inc. today announced that it sold its 3 millionth iPad yesterday. The milestone comes exactly 80 days after the product was introduced in the United States.
The Cupertino, Calif.-based giant appears to be picking up the pace as it pushes the device into international markets. It reported having sold 2 million iPads at the end of May, exactly one month after the company sold its first million iPads. The third million were sold in 21 days.
The number of apps for the tablet device is also growing at a compounding rate. There are now more than 11,000 iPad apps, according to the company, whereas about 5,000 were available at the beginning of the month.
“People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.”
Apple's 'magic' translates to 3 million sales in 80 days
