Mexican operator sues Nortel

MEXICO CITY-Mexican mobile operator Unefon has filed a $900 million lawsuit against Nortel Networks Ltd., alleging the Canadian vendor has failed to comply with the terms of a financing agreement.

International press reports said Unefon accused Nortel of failing to syndicate the first part of its agreed financing to Unefon.

Mexcian company TV Azteca, which holds 46.5 percent of Unefon, said it will delay spinning off Unefon until the operator resolves its dispute with Nortel.

Unefon is Mexico’s smallest mobile operator and had about 1.1 million subscribers at the end of August.
