FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Next-generation chip solutions provider Beceem Communications Inc. said it was on track to ship 3 million WiMAX chips in 2009, and that it was bolstering its lineup with its new “4G Turbo” offering. The company, which a couple of months ago announced it had shipped 1 million chips during the third quarter alone, said the 3 million mark would provide Beceem with more than 70% market share.
Beceem said the new chip features a number of uplink performance improvements that improve speed and coverage, especially at the cell edge and in areas of low signal strength, and is compatible with every Wave-compliant WiMAX base station. Beceem said the improvements provide a gain of approximately 2dB compared to traditional WiMAX chips. The chips also enables a unique network-entry boost mode that improves the likelihood of successful network entry in areas where signal strength is too low for other WiMAX products to connect to the network, which the company said were typically at RSSI of less than -90dB.
