Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. jumped the momentum of the recently completed 700 MHz auction with news that its network solutions for 700 MHz spectrum will be available in the first quarter of 2009.
Based on unified base-transceiver station platform technology, Huawei said it plans to aggressively target U.S. customers with the equipment. Using its multimode, multiband 3900 series base station, Huawei’s 700 MHz base-station portfolio uses software-defined radios and will support dual mode operation for CDMA and LTE as well as UMTS and LTE technology combinations.
The Chinese-based vendor, which counts 35 of the top 50 wireless operators as customers, said it is committed to North America. Charlie Chen, senior VP of marketing and product management for the U.S., said the company is patient and persistent toward its U.S. goals, realizing it takes time to build its credibility here. ClearTalk and Leap Wireless International Inc. both use Huawei infrastructure equipment. In addition, the company supports WiMAX solutions and counts 38 WiMAX deployments worldwide.
