SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. continued to expand BREW’s footprint, announcing a deal with Asia Pacific Broadband Wireless Communication (APBW) to bring the platform to users in Taiwan.
APBW, a 3G broadband wireless service provider, plans to use the platform on its CDMA2000 1x network to deploy information services, ringtones, games and other applications. The companies initially partnered two years ago to deploy Taiwan’s first 3G network.
“Not only will APBW subscribers have access to a high-speed wireless network in Taiwan with advanced voice capabilities but they will be able to download the latest in wireless content, further enhancing their wireless experience,” said Bob Briggs, vice president of global business relations and operations for Qualcomm Internet Services.
Qualcomm began targeting overseas operators earlier this year. Since June, the chipmaker and software developer has inked deals with operators in Finland, Russia and the United Kingdom.
