Nickelodeon launches Nick Mobile portal

NEW YORK-TV channel Nickelodeon said it was partnering with m-Qube to launch its Nick Mobile portal that will allow wireless users to download directly ringtones, wallpapers and text-messaging services to their cell phones.

Nickelodeon said the mobile portal will draw content from its most popular television shows, including “SpongeBob SquarePants,” “Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius,” “Dora the Explorer” and “The Fairly OddParents.” The portal also will include interactive content subscription packages that will allow consumers to receive daily text-messaging alerts from popular Nickelodeon characters.

“The launch of the Nick Mobile online portal allows us to offer our audience branded wireless content that extends the Nick experience to another screen, providing another opportunity to deepen their connection with their favorite characters,” said Paul Jelinek, vice president of business development and e-commerce for Nickelodeon. “Wireless is becoming an increasingly important medium to reach our core demographic, and Nick Mobile allows us to expand our direct-to-consumer relationship with this audience. It’s one more medium that allows us to be everywhere kids are.”

The deal adds to m-Qube’s recent string of good news, which included $10 million in financing it secured in mid-August, and a content pact with Major League Baseball announced earlier this year.
