Nortel enhances mobile enterprise software line

SANTA CLARA, Calif.-Nortel Networks Ltd. unveiled several enhancements to its Office Anywhere product, adding instant messaging and e-mail capabilities and expanding accessibility to internal business applications for mobile workers.

The technology company teamed with Research in Motion Ltd. to launch new versions of its Multimedia Communications Server and CallPilot offerings, allowing BlackBerry users to respond to voice calls via instant messaging and to embed voice messages in e-mails. Nortel also introduced an offering that provides mobile workers full network access to internal business applications and services from Secure Socket Layer-enabled Web devices including cell phones, personal digital assistants and computers.

“It’s essential for companies to provide employees with the tools necessary to measure and manage their time as well as their communications,” said Steve Blood, research vice president of Gartner. “Accessing business applications in real time is just as important for mobile workers.”
