Alvarion gets LMDS contract with Reliance in India

TEL-AVIV, Israel-Wireless broadband solution provider Alvarion Ltd. announced Reliance Infocomm Ltd., subsidiary of the Reliance Group, will use Alvarion’s WALKair LMDS solution to complement its new wireline and wireless CDMA access network in India.

Already, Alvarion has shipped $2.5 million in equipment. Reliance plans to deploy the Alvarion solution to all major cities in India during the next two years.

“We are delighted that our advanced technology will play a strategic role in helping this prestigious group become one of the world’s leading telcos,” said Tzvika Friedman, president and chief operating officer of Alvarion. “Throughout the world, established carriers have begun to recognize the logic of using BWA as a flexible, cost-effective complement to their wireline and cellular networks.”
