Mobile video will drive 3G services

CHESTERFIELD, Mo.-Video via mobile phone will be the No. 1 reason wireless subscribers upgrade to third-generation services, according to a new study from Datacomm Research Co.

“A large market for short videos is emerging: mobile-phone and portable computer users,” explained Michael Hentschel, the report’s author. “To succeed, wireless operators must support both professionally and user-created video content enabling diverse personal, preview and promotional applications.”

Mobile video will gain ground in 2004 and take off in 2005 as handsets that can play and record short videos emerge in the market, according to the study.
