United Airlines to offer two-way e-mail via Verizon

CHICAGO-United Airlines said it will begin offering two-way e-mail capability on its domestic flights using Verizon Communications Inc. subsidiary Verizon Airfone’s JetConnect service.

The in-flight service, which includes e-mail, instant messaging and text-messaging services, costs $16 per flight plus 10 cents per kilobyte of data sent in excess of 2 kilobits and will be available to business travelers using POP3, Microsoft Corp.’s Exchange via Outlook Web access and Lotus Notes via POP.

United began offering JetConnect service on select 767 domestic flights beginning last December and said it expects to expand the offering across its entire domestic fleet.
