Alamosa reports first quarter of positive EBITDA

LUBBOCK, Texas—Alamosa Holdings Inc. reported $3.1 million in positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for the first quarter of this year, the company’s first quarter of positive EBITDA and one quarter ahead of schedule.

For the quarter ended March 30, Alamosa reported $128.4 million in total revenue compared with the $45.8 million posted during the first quarter last year. Net loss remained nearly flat from $27.4 million last year, a loss of 38 cents per share, to a loss of $28.1 million this year, a loss of 30 cents per share.

Alamosa said it added approximately 48,000 wireless customers ending the quarter with 551,000 subscribers. Average revenue per user for the quarter was $59, down slightly from the $60 the carrier reported during the first quarter last year. Customer churn increased from 2.5 percent last year to 3.1 percent this year but declined from the 3.3 percent reported during the fourth quarter of last year.
