Motorola
Motorola released its 
  first CDMA 1x mobile phone for the Americas, the 120x. 
  The device is capable of supporting high-speed packet data and includes an advanced 
  phone book and scheduling features, Motorola said. The phone is compatible with 
  the company’s MP3 Player accessory. When using the MP3 Player, an incoming call 
  is recognized by a pause in the music, which can be accepted or sent to voice 
  mail. The company has introduced three other CDMA 1x handsets, all for the Korean

Hewlett-Packard
Hewlett-Packard introduced two 
  new wireless notebooks, offering embedded 802.11b or Bluetooth connectivity 
  and digital home networking features.
  HP’s Pavilion zt1000 notebook comes embedded with 802.11b connectivity and optional 
  integrated Bluetooth capabilities, while the company’s ze1110 notebook starts 
  at just over US$1,000. HP also introduced a line of home networking products

Acterna recently announced 
  three new products, developed to test and improve stages 
  of the wireless network lifecycle. They include the UMTS Down 
  Converter, designed to measure radio frequency propagation in the Universal 
  Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) standard; the Acterna 8610 3G Mobile 
  Test Solution for UMTS, a network tester for 3G; and the Acterna 4353 Mobile 
  Service Tester, a tester for CDMA 2000 handsets and personal digital assistants. 
  The company also released the Turbo Option for the Acterna Mobile Production 
  Test System 4400M its testing platform for GSM and General Packet Radio Service 
  (GPRS) mobile-phone production. Acterna said the product helps eliminate potential 
  bottlenecks in handset production flow by increasing production capacity up

NetTest added 
  new testing features for General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) networks to its 
  LITE 3000E handheld network testing instrument for mobile and fixed networks. 
  NetTest said the product is the first in its class to offer all-level signaling 
  decode of the GPRS Gb interface protocol for GSM/GPRS operators. Future releases

Convergys has expanded 
  its billing product line with a new component-based next-generation framework, 
  which it said improves the deployment of modular and convergent billing and 
  customer care products for Convergys clients. The company said Convergys clients 
  can build on their software investments with Convergys. The company also released 
  version 5.0 of its Geneva Active Revenue Management (ARM) 
  software. Convergys said the new version of Geneva addresses the needs 
  of its clients with new functionality and operability enhancements. For example, 
  version 5.0 allows operators to bundle and deliver content, commerce and communications 
  services and discounts to both pre- and post-paid customers, whereas previously

U.K.-based vendor CMG launched a 
  product for real-time rate and charge for prepaid messaging, 
  services and content. The product tracks charging for premium prepaid 
  and data services and allows operators to secure revenues by maximizing customer 
  retention through a promotion and loyalty functionality. Prepaid Mcharger supports 
  up to 5,000 transactions per second and dynamically charges for short message

Ericsson announced 
  the PrePaid System for allowing 
  prepaid users to take advantage of multimedia messaging services (MMS). 
  Operators can charge prepaid users based on content, such as pictures, audio, 
  video clips and animation. The solution allows charging for MMS in near real 
  time based on tow open standards, Parlay and Diameter. Real-time charging will 
  be available by the third quarter of 2002, Ericsson said. www

Japan’s helloNetwork, a developer 
  of live and on-demand streaming media software, announced a 
  solution that it said allows Internet service providers to transmit streaming 
  media to any device enabled with Java technology, including mobile phones. 
  HelloMobile DP is a content encoding and application development solution that 
  enables the creation of downloadable content, such as video ring tones. The 
  software allows operators to begin offering video content ahead of third-generation 
  (3G) networks, the company said. The products consist of a specialized encoder, 
  an encoding software development kit (SDK) and a Player SDK. The product includes 
  several codecs for optimizing content unique to specific operators. The company 
  also released helloVideoMailPersonal, an application built to open subscription 
  revenue opportunities for video mail or live two-way video instant messaging

Emblaze
Emblaze released the 
  latest version of its Mobile Media Platform. Release 3 includes enhancements 
  that include improved encoding and playback quality for low-bandwidth networks, 
  along with improved Dynamic Bandwidth Adaptation algorithms and full implementation 
  of the Real Time Control Protocol (RTCP). The product also includes Emblaze 
  Xtream error correction and error resilience controls at the application level.

Speedwise said it has developed a 
  client-free infrastructure solution that will allow mobile network operators

  Internet accelerator for wireless networks. Speedwise said its new OptCP maintains

Schema announced the launch of its

  The OptiPlanner is an addition to Schema’s Telecom Resource Management (TRM) 
  product suite, which focuses on optimization of GSM/GPRS/UMTS networks. It has 
  been used in Israel to provide a carrier with UMTS radio planning necessary
