Siemens’ U.S. units increase sales and orders

NEW YORK-Siemens AG’s U.S. business units recorded increases in both sales and orders for the first quarter of fiscal 2000, ended Dec. 31, 1999, compared with the previous year.

Sales for the first quarter rose 19 percent from $3.1 billion in 1999 to $3.7 billion this fiscal year.

The company attributes some of this growth to its Infineon Technologies unit, which saw a 156-percent increase in sales from the same period last year due to a rebound of the semiconductor market and the consolidation of its White Oak production facilities.

Orders for the company jumped 25 percent from $3.4 billion in 1999 to almost $4.3 billion for fiscal year 2000. At the same time employment declined from 64,200 employees to 60,800 employees, which the company attributes to the sale of Siemens Electromechanical Components, Vacuumschemelze Corp. and Siemens Passive Electronic Devices divisions.
