SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Motorola Inc. announced it licensed Citrix Systems Inc.’s Independent
Computing Architecture for use in Motorola digital wireless devices.
The first Motorola devices to receive this
technology will be its integrated Digital Enhanced Network handsets, which combine the capabilities of a digital
cellular phone, two-way radio and alphanumeric pager in one device.
“The licensing agreement with Citrix
will allow users to capitalize on the advanced packet-based capabilities of the iDEN network, allowing an iDEN
handset connected to a computer to function as an advanced, integrated data modem,” said Sam Desai, senior
vice president and general manager of Motorola’s iDEN Subscriber Group.
More specifically, future iDEN wireless
handsets will enable a user to connect to a Citrix WinFrame or MetaFrame server to achieve quick virtual access to e-
mail, files and database information, just as they would while in the office.
An iDEN handset connected to a
personal computer via a cable also will allow users to remotely access Microsoft Corp. Windows applications, as well
as the Internet, across a variety of networks, said Motorola.
