QUEBEC-Bell Mobility, a Canadian wireless communications company, and Taxi Laurier Ste-Foy have introduced Canada’s first in-vehicle mobile Scotiabank point-of-sale terminals to allow wireless direct payment of fares. The new terminals give passengers the option of paying their cab fares with their debit or credit cards, instead of cash.
“The safety of our members is one of our top priorities,” said Andre Poirier, vice president and chief executive officer of Taxi Laurier Ste-Foy. “Because they’re fairly isolated and have to handle large amounts of money, taxi drivers are often prime targets for criminals. By providing them with these point-of-sale terminals and clearly identifying it on the vehicles, we have finally implemented an effective way to reduce cash transactions to a minimum, which in turn greatly reduces the risk of theft or injury.”
