Vivo leads Brazilian mobile market; Claro, TIM tied for second place

Brazilian carrier Vivo, which was bought by Spanish operator Telefônica in July 2010, kept its leadership in mobile access during the first half of 2011. According to numbers just released by Anatel, the carrier has just over 64 million users, which  represents 29.47% of market share.

TIM, from Telecom Itália group, has reached Claro, from América Móvil group, and now they are tied for second place. Each one has 25.55% market share. In May, Vivo has 29.48%; Claro counts 25.46% and TIM, 25.34%.

In fourth place, Brazilian operator Oi decreased in market share from 18.38% in May to 19.1% in June. Smaller carriers such as CTBC and Sercomtel have 0.3% and 0.04%, respectively.
