AT&T throws credit at DirecTV, mobile package

AT&T continues DirecTV integration targeting mobile switchers

AT&T continues to integrate its recently acquired DirecTV assets into its overall product offerings with a new promotion tied to the company’s wireless service.

Current DirecTV and U-verse customers can receive a $500 credit for each line of mobile service they migrate to AT&T Mobility. The credit includes a $300 bill credit and a $200 credit tied to the trade-in of “eligible” smartphones from a rival mobile operator.

The package also includes a $10 per month combined billing discount that AT&T is extending to all packages involving its TV and mobile services. For the latest offering, combined billing also includes 10,000 Plenti points that customers can use at participating partners.

AT&T last month garnered regulatory approval on its $48.5 billion acquisition of DirecTV, ending more than a year of consideration by the government regulator. As part of the integration process, AT&T is combining its U-verse IP television platform with the DirecTV assets into a newly formed entertainment and Internet services business that is headed by John Stankey, who previously served as AT&T’s chief strategy officer.

“This is a unique offer and unlike anything we’ve ever done – all to celebrate DirecTV now being part of the AT&T family,” said David Christopher, CMO at AT&T Mobility.

The latest offer is not a significant departure from previous promotions offered by AT&T tied to its mobile service that included paying off early termination fees up to $350 per line and offering a trade-in credit on devices from rival carriers.

AT&T today began offering a previously announced package of high-definition and digital video-recording services for up to four TV receivers, and a four-line unlimited voice calling, text messaging and 10 gigabytes of shareable data for $200 per month.
