Wireless Workforce: Brightstar names new CEO, Motorola exec lands at Dropbox

Brightstar adds to workforce, names new CEO

Wireless device distribution giant Brightstar, now majority-owned by Softbank, lost its leader when Marcelo Claure took the CEO job at Sprint. Now Brightstar has named a new CEO: Jaymin Patel is a 47-year-old leader from outside the company who has led more than a dozen merger and acquisition deals.

Patel comes to Brightstar from gaming and lottery giant GTECH, but Brightstar said its choice was anything but a gamble. “Jaymin’s operational leadership, financial expertise and experience negotiating and closing highly complex, multiyear deals makes him the ideal person to lead Brightstar at the center of the wireless ecosystem,” said Brightstar board chairman Ronald Fisher. “His disciplined global approach to operations will continue to drive customer value and profitable growth while maintaining our strong tradition of innovation in the SoftBank family.”

Former Motorola Mobility exec joins Dropbox
Vanessa Wittman is joining Dropbox as CFO, replacing Sujay Jaswa. Wittman was CFO of Motorola Mobility when Google sold the company to China’s Lenovo. Her appointment at this time has sparked new speculation that Dropbox is preparing for an IPO. Wittman also has worked at Morgan Stanley and Microsoft.

Wittman is the second Motorola Mobility executive to join the Dropbox workforce. Dennis Woodside was Motorola’s CEO before joining Dropbox as COO.
