Mino Wireless attracts $1.5M in funding

SUNNYVALE, Calif.—A privately held California company, Mino Wireless, said it has garnered $1.5 million in first-round venture-capital funding to launch low-cost international wireless calling using Voice Over Internet Protocol technology.

According to Mino, the mobile services company has been working on technology to connect mobile phones to VoIP infrastructure since its founding two years ago.

“Once you download Mino software on your mobile phone, you can make international calls within Mino and talk for only 2 cents per minute,” said Jing Liu, founder and chief executive officer of Mino Wireless. “With the number of mobile phones worldwide reaching 2 billion, we have a very large market opportunity.”

Investors in the funding round included TNP on the Road (Japan/Silicon Valley Fund), Freeze L.L.C., AWE net and other investors in Silicon Valley and Asia.
