We sat down with Tom Gregor, president and general manager of machine networks at Ingenu, to speak about a case study that led to the creation of a smart grid on the island of Aruba.
In 2013, the small caribbean island of Aruba tasked Ingenu to deploy its RPMA network so that it could create a nation-wide smart grid. N.V. Elmar, the only energy provider on the island, was looking to increase efficiencies when distributing electrical supply to its over 40,000 metered customers.
N.V. Elmar started by running a pilot for its smart electrical meters, and the next year deployed smart LED street lights and a smart oil pressure solution. The company also has plans to get into smart water monitoring – all of these technologies connected through Ingenu’s RPMA low-power wide-area network.
