The vendor is one of the members of the IMT-2020 Promotion Group, which leads 5G efforts in China
Huawei announced it has achieved a peak cell throughput of 20 Gbps during a 5G test using the 4.9 GHz C-Band. The test contributed to the China 5G technology research and development trial being led by the IMT-2020 Promotion Group.
During the test, Huawei used all 200 megahertz of the 4.9 GHz band to achieve wide-area coverage, the vendor said. The trial incorporated 5G New Radio, massive multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO), polar code and other 5G-candidate technologies.
The test was designed to complement the 3.5 GHz pre-5G tests conducted by Huawei earlier this year.
Huawei is currently taking part in multiple trials outside of China, including in Japan with NTT Docomo, and in Europe with Vodafone.
In May this year, China completed planning of a 30-site “5G” test field in Huairou district, Beijing.
Six vendors including Huawei, ZTE, Ericsson, Nokia, Datang and Samsung are taking part in this field trial in Beijing. Chipset and test instrument vendors were invited to join the field trial as well.
The IMT-2020 Promotion Group completed the initial phase of its trial program in 2016. That phase included testing wireless technologies including Massive multiple-input-multiple-output, novel multiple access, new waveforms, advance coding, ultra-dense network implementations and high-frequency communications. The trial phase also included network slicing, edge computing and network function reconstruction.
Operators participating in the IMT-2020 Promotion Group include China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom and Japanese telecoms operator NTT DoCoMo. Vendors which are part of the initiative are Huawei, ZTE, Ericsson, Nokia, Datang and Samsung. A number of chipset and test measurement vendors, including Qualcomm, Intel, Mediatek, Ctec, Keysight Technologies and Rohde & Schwartz are also part of the initiative.
