Chunghwa Telecom will use Singtel’s cloud platform Paragon
Taiwanese telco Chunghwa Telecom reached an agreement to use Singapore operator Singtel’s cloud platform, Paragon, to deliver integrated services combining 5G network slicing with cloud applications.
In a release, Singtel said that the two companies are joining together to promote the rapid popularization of 5G Standalone (SA) innovative application services.
By leveraging Singtel Paragon, Chunghwa Telecom can create a service platform to exploit the network slicing capabilities of 5G, deploy multi-access edge computing at scale and utilize its marketplace to promote and deliver innovative 5G applications to industrial sectors in Taiwan, according to the two companies.
“With added power, Chunghwa Telecom will provide the highest quality, advanced and convenient services to Chunghwa Telecom’s customers,” said Jia Zhongyong, deputy general manager at Chunghwa Telecom Network Branch.
Bill Chang, CEO of Digital InfraCo at Singtel, said: “We emphasize the great importance of 5G use cases to enable industry transformation in the global markets. We are glad to partner with Chunghwa Telecom to mutually expand the service opportunities of 5G monetization regionally.”
Chunghwa Telecom and Swedish vendor Ericsson recently implemented network slicing technology to help improve healthcare services in Taiwan. The European vendor highlighted that there is a clearly identified need for technological answers to health challenges in Taiwan presented by, among other things, an aging population.
With the aim of developing new business models for 5G, Chunghwa Telecom recently developed 5G connected ambulances utilizing Ericsson’s end-to-end network slicing technology.
This field trial was completed on Chunghwa’s 5G Standalone (SA) network in collaboration with the European vendor and St. Paul’s Hospital. With network slicing capabilities, the 5G connected ambulances allow transmission of vital signs and real-time data in high-resolution 4K videos, facilitating remote diagnosis and quicker decision-making. The companies also noted that clinicians can access diagnostic exams conducted in the field, optimizing treatment plans even before the patient arrives at the hospital. Additionally, clinicians can provide instant guidance to the paramedic to take necessary actions, ultimately saving lives and improving outcomes, the partners said.
Chunghwa Telecom had launched commercial 5G services in July 2020 using equipment from Ericsson.
