US-based private networking specialist Celona has claimed the industry’s “first automated eSIM solution” for enterprise mobile device management (MDM) systems. The embedded SIM (eSIM) solution “streamlines” the onboarding of cellular devices on Celona private LTE/5G system, the company said. Enterprise IT staff can “quickly and easily onload a fleet of client devices using their existing MDM system”, it said.
The eSIM location for a LTE/5G device on a private network “automatically” registers in an MDM system, “such as JAMF and AirWatch”, and pushes the configuration to the device. It creates a “zero-touch download and install of a distinct eSIM without any user input”, said Celona. Customers can reset the status of eSIMs to use them on different devices, it added. The solution is available in the latest (2308) release of its Orchestrator private network management product.
The result is enterprises can make direct use of eSIM technology in Orchestrator without having to login separately to their MDM servers. Individual eSIMs and groups of eSIMs can be activated in the Celona management platform. A statement explained: “Many enterprises use MDM systems to configure, manage, and secure hundreds or thousands of devices on their networks. Through custom APIs, Celona’s eSIM support now enables these same MDM systems to provision cellular-capable devices for use on Celona’s [private 5G networks].”

In a supplied quote, Zeus Kerravala, principal analyst at ZK Research, commented: “Automating mobile device management and reducing the friction of securely provisioning user equipment (UE) on private wireless networks is a big win for everyone. While it may seem inconsequential to many, these types of innovations are precisely what’s needed to supercharge the market for the private wireless market.”
