Quectel releases revolutionary smart module based on AI chipset

SHANGHAI – Quectel Wireless Solutions, the leading global supplier of wireless modules, today proudly announced that it has launched SC66, a revolutionary Artificial Intelligence (AI) Cat 6 Smart Module. The SC66 Smart Module is equipped with Kryo Gold quad cores 2.2GHz and Kryo Silver quad cores 1.843GHz with built-in Neural Processing Engine which will gradually support many AI features.

Based on Qualcomm’s SDM660 chipset and Qualcomm® Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine (SNP), SC66 is pin to pin compatible with its predecessor SC60. The multi-mode Smart LTE Cat 6 module is capable of delivering data rates of up to 300Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink.

With built-in Android 8.0, SC66 is designed to support leading performance, various multimedia features and Quick Charge 3.0 technology. It is ideal for both industrial and consumer applications requiring high data-rate and multimedia functions as well as advanced AI based use cases. SC66 contains three variants of SC66-CE, SC66-G and SC66-W (SC66-W for Wi-Fi & BT only), which are targeted at different markets worldwide.

The use of multiple antennas at the receiver end at the same time and on the same frequency band greatly minimizes errors and optimizes the data speed. The module also combines high-speed wireless connectivity with embedded multi-constellation and high-sensitivity GNSS (GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and SBAS) receiver for positioning.

A rich set of interfaces (such as LCM, 24MP at 30 fps ZSL Camera, Touch Panel, MIC, SPK, UART, USB, I2C, SPI) and unique feature such as 4K (2560 × 1600) 60 fps video capturing and recording as well as 4GB LPDDR4+32GB eMMC, extend the applicability of the module to a wide range of M2M applications, including smart POS, smart cash registers, smart home gateways, smart robots, smart drones and collaborative UAV, smart wearables, security surveillance, PDA & tablets, vending machines, delivery lockers, police and law enforcement equipment, in-car video streaming and entertainment systems, etc.

“Artificial Intelligence (AI) has only become commercialized in recent years simply because AI requires complex software algorithms and very high computational power, which used to be extremely resource-intensive and therefore unaffordable for many applications. AI, or better call it, ‘Intelligence of Machines’ now is being built in SC66 which means AI will soon scale up due to its viability. Consequently, it’s predicated that we will be witnessing significant cost reduction in AI based devices throughout coming years,” said Mr. Patrick Qian, Quectel CEO, who added that “This takes us to the next trend so called ‘Cloud to the Edge’ or ‘edge computing’ which means shifting part or whole processing to the devices rather than Cloud and unlocking endless opportunities in M2M/IoT industry. As usual Quectel appears to be the 1st mover in high-tech field and we are extremely excited about it.”
