Video: Making 5G a Reality

As discussion of 5G grows in the wireless industry, the question on everyone’s minds is this: “When will 5G become a reality?”

Durga Malladi, Senior VP of Engineering at Qualcomm Technologies explains that the question can be approached in two different ways:

1. The standardization process of what some are calling 5G New Radio (NR) which is estimated between 2018 and 2019.
2. Testing 5G NR technology in a spec-compliant manner in parallel and in concert with standards as they take.

Durga reminds us that it is a technology that will last over a decade and a half, so Qualcomm and its partners do not want to rush it, because it needs to be tested and functional before it’s commercial.

Learn why there are some applications, such as mobile broadband, than can take advantage of 5G sooner than other applications, as well as information on the latest prototypes the company has developed not only for internal testing, but also for others to use.

It’s the bread and butter of wireless networks now, but how does LTE fit into the plans for 5G? What about small cells role? Learn about this and more in this insightful discussion on the future of wireless networks.
