Connected vehicles are part of the Huawei smart city portfolio
Chinese ICT services provider Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SamTech Middle East, a regional systems integrator specializing in smart vehicle tracking systems.
Under the terms of the deal, SamTech will develop customized applications that integrate with Huawei’s connected vehicle service to improve public safety and comfort in buses, taxis and heavy goods vehicles.
The connected vehicle offering is part of Huawei’s smart city solution set. “The regional transport industry is about to make a major leap into the future, with new ICT solutions enabling increased levels of capability in safety, efficiency and comfort,” said Safder Nazir, regional VP, Smart Cities and IoT, Huawei Middle East.
“Huawei’s connected-in-vehicle solution coupled with SamTech’s intelligent software delivers on a key capability for regional Smart City initiatives whilst enabling critical control capability for transportation and emergency service stakeholders.”
The joint smart vehicle solution offers a wide range of safety and security services such as in-vehicle video surveillance, accurate passenger tracking, emergency services communication, real-time vehicle health data analysis and even allows for a host of multi-media services for passenger’s entertainment.
The solution offers high-speed internet connectivity to transport vehicles, enabling stakeholders to access high-definition in-vehicle video surveillance to monitor driver and passenger status, analyze driver performance and highlight potential safety issues.
“SamTech’s innovative solutions and applications are conceived, planned and developed in Dubai to utilize state-of-the-art hardware applications in partnership with leading vendors in the Internet of Things (IoT) industry,” SamTech Middle East founder and CEO, Samir Abdul Hadi said.
Huawei recently signed a MoU with US chip maker Intel to deploy Intel’s X86 microprocessors in Huawei’s IoT gateway for its Smart Bus Solution. This deployment will enable the Chinese firm to offer improved smart services including in-vehicle video surveillance, accurate passenger tracking, emergency services communication, real-time health data analysis of the vehicle and multi-media services for passenger entertainment.
Taiwan Mobile considering a launch in India, Indonesia
In other APAC news, Taiwanese mobile operator Taiwan Mobile said it was considering to invest in the telecommunications market in India and Indonesia, Focus Taiwan reported.
The announcement was made by the telco’s chairman Richard Tsai during the operator’s annual general meeting.
The operator is currently evaluating the possibility of teaming up with operators in India to enter the 4G market, according to the report.
Taiwan Mobile ended last year with 3 million 4G subscribers and aims to reach 5 million 4G LTE customers in 2017.
