Samsung to unveil Galaxy S7, S7 Edge; LG rolling out X series

In keeping with Internet tradition, Samsung and LG are releasing teaser details of new smartphones, which are set for official unveilings next week during Mobile World Congress.

Samsung is expected to release its flagship Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge during its “Unpacked” event on Feb. 21, the day before MWC kicks off in Barcelona, Spain. Last year, at what’s essentially the same event, Samsung rolled out its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Features teased in online materials include apparent water resistance as well as wireless charging capabilities.

This video, featuring Indonesia archer Dellie Threesyadinda, depicts some of the new features likely to be included in the new smartphones.

LG also got into the mix announcing on Feb. 15 its new “X” series of smartphones, which are also set for an official debut at MWC.

The company touts the onboard cameras and displays, which are meant for “customers who do not want or need all the bells and whistles that come with today’s high-end phones but still desire a great camera or advanced display.” The X cam model features dual spots cameras coupled with LG’s 3D Bending Glass. The X screen has an “always-on” second screen. The primary screen is 4.93-inches and the second screen is 1.76-inches. According to LG, “Users can easily access frequently used apps, answer calls without interrupting the current activity or just play music.”
