IoT Industry updates – Wireless wars erupt

IoT LTE, GSM and unlicensed network connectivity all made advancements over the past couple of weeks with France-based Orange launching its LoRa IoT test concurrent with LTE and GSM trials; and publicly traded Silver Springs Networks launched an international wireless IPv6 network service for IoT.

The Wall Street Journal announced a wireless war erupted this week when Starfish was announced.  Dan Shey, an analyst at ABI Research, was quoted as saying, “It has caused the operators to wake up.”

Ericsson and single mode chipmaker Sequans were part of the Orange IoT LTE GSM announcement aiming to demonstrate extended in-building wireless coverage designed to increase device reachability sevenfold, while reducing device cost by 60% and extend battery life for up to 10 years. Check out this video interview with David Hammerwall, strategic product manager in Ericsson’s Radio Group, who shares his insights with RCR Wireless News’Jeff Mucci about Orange and Ericsson’s launch of the world’s first IoT over GSM and LTE field trial. The trial, which will be conducted in France, uses the 900 MHz spectrum band.

IoT Development Toolkits – Where does industry start the digital transformation process?

It seems everyone has an IoT development toolkit. The question is which one should the telecom industry use to jumpstart its IoT digital transformation? Examples of recently announced IoT development toolkits include:
