Details of latest Sprint promotion aren’t available, but questions will be answered on Dec. 7
Sprint is ratcheting up the heat against competitors – T-Mobile US in particular – by way of a series of new promotions; the fourth-place U.S. carrier has posted a countdown clock for the next big deal coming out on Dec. 7.
According to the Web page with the timer: “There’s a glow of something special on the horizon – a glow of holiday giveaways, offers and promotions exclusively available to our loyal Sprint customers. Starting December 7th, we have something special planned, so be sure to check back so you don’t miss out!”
This move comes about three weeks after Sprint announced customers coming to the carrier from Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility or T-Mobile US will be offered a comparable rate plan at half the price they are currently paying.
The promotion, which began Nov. 20 and runs through Jan. 7, requires customers to port their number from one of the carrier’s nationwide rivals with the promise of a 50% savings on their monthly bill. Sprint notes the offer is valid for “most plans” with the discounted plan available through Jan. 8, 2018. The 50% discount also applies to per-device access fees on data buckets.
Speaking of Sprint directly targeting T-Mobile US, that’s a two-way street as evidenced by T-Mobile US’ Nov. 26 announcement that it will provide each customer porting a line from Sprint or its prepaid brands Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile a $200 bill credit. The credit does not require a device to be turned in as part of the process.
The $200 credit is on top of the up to $650 T-Mobile US currently provides to customers porting their lines over from rivals, which covers any early termination fees or remaining device payments and does require the customer to turn in their old device.
Earlier in the year, T-Mobile US surpassed Sprint to become the nation’s No. 3 wireless carrier based on subscriber numbers.
