The campaign was started by 22-year-old platform engineer, Isis Wenger, who is a self-proclaimed “self-taught engineer, extreme introvert, science-nerd, anime-lover” and “college dropout.”

Wenger said the message is meant to combat the issues that she has had to deal with as a woman in a male-driven industry.

“Especially when I was first starting out in the industry, people were very condescending,” she said. “There’s no way I could have really been an engineer right? They had pretty low expectations of me.”

Engineers all over the world are taking part in the movement. Over 75,000 tweets with the hashtag have been posted so far and the movement doesn’t seem to be slowing anytime soon.

Supporters of the movement have also successfully crowdfunded a billboard to display diverse faces of engineers in Silicon Valley. The campaign collected $7,825 in just 24 hours.
