Report predicts DaaS to grow big data revenue into 2019

Telecommunications service providers are big collectors of structured and unstructured data. They continue to find more and more opportunities to apply and offer services in multiple big data and analytics industries.

Through new technologies such as centralized subscriber data management systems and self-organizing networks, carriers are able to consolidate and organize data and monitor its performance like never before. This has allowed the big data boom to grow profits in numerous markets. One such emerging market is “data as a service.”

A new study by Telecommunications Market Research Reports predicts future revenue from big data-driven telecom analytics and DaaS to grow big data revenue into a $5.4 billion industry by 2019.

The report is aimed at telecom service providers, wireless device manufacturers, big data and analytics companies, wireless infrastructure companies, telecom managed service companies and cloud infrastructure and XaaS providers, and predicts the DaaS model to grow into various market sectors including retail and hospitality, media, government, homeland security, utilities, financial services, healthcare and pharmaceutical, telecommunications, and the emerging industrial Internet vertical.

DaaS is a service that allows vendors access to databases or allows them to host their own databases on vendor-managed systems.

The significant growth of DaaS is expected to be fueled by cloud-based infrastructure and services, enterprise data syndication and the growing trend of Everything as a Service according to the report.

DaaS offers carriers an excellent opportunity to offer business-to-business services that provide a secondary revenue stream.

The telecom analytics market alone is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 50% between 2014 and 2019.
