KT accuses SK Telecom of deceptive marketing
- The Korea Times reports that Korean carrier, KT filed a court injunction asking to stop rival SK Telecom advertisements for what KT claims is the first commercialization of a tri-band LTE-Advanced wireless network. Legal representatives for KT are reportedly seeking a complete ban on the ads, telling The Korea Times that SK Teelcom is misleading the public with “false” press releases, and that the tri-band LTE-A service is not currently available to the public.
- SK Telecom said it will review the legal filing and take counteractions, if necessary.
SK Telecom announced the rollout of the LTE-A service late last month.
Telstra launches Global Financial Trading Solutions
- Telstra announced today it has launched Global Financial Trading Solutions, a claimed low-latency trading network designed to improve electronic trading globally. Services for the network include server infrastructure in financial hubs globally, managed cloud and unified communications.
- Executives with Telstra believe the network will provide U.S. businesses with an on-demand ICT solution to help them react to global market events faster. Telstra’s Global Financial Trading Solution also includes its Managed Cloud for Financial Application, which is said to provide fully managed enterprise-grade service designed with front-, middle- and back-office applications in mind.
MTN Group appoints new GM for products and services
- The MTN group has appointed Debbie Minaar, former IBM South Africa executive, as GM for products and services within its Group Enterprise Business Unit. Minnaar will be responsible for determining MTN’s ICT offering to enterprise customers across Africa and the Middle East. She will also help the company to identify key partnerships around cloud and other services.
Supreme Court shoots down Airtel, Vodafone license extension request
- The Indian Supreme Court refused to grant requests by Vodafone and Bharti Airtel to extend their spectrum licenses by another 10 years. The carriers were seeking the extension in return for paying any auction-determined price fixed by the Indian government without having to surrender spectrum licenses, which expire in December.
- The carriers, joined by operator Idea, have also challenged the government’s new policy, which unbundles spectrum from licenses. Both petitions will be heard at a later date by another extension of the court.
