Glow Networks has been involved in deployment and testing of thousands of base stations over the years and has seen the transitions from 2G to 3G to LTE firsthand. “We’ve been involved with the deployment of CDMA, EVDO, recently LTE and currently we’re involved in testing VoLTE which is very exciting,” said the company’s Dan Bujold.
Since 2010 Glow Networks has been part of CSS, and Bujold said this gives Glow access to technical support specialists worldwide, as the CSS global network includes 13 global distribution centers.
Bujold said that testing network equipment has become somewhat easier as equipment has become more IP centric. “Time-to-market seems to be quicker than in those eras of 2000 when we were first turning up CDMA,” he said. Bujold added that CSS/Glow now looks for more IP-related skill sets in its employees.
Glow Networks, now known as the Carrier Services division of CSS, prides itself on cross-training employees in multiple technologies and on many vendor platforms. “We have employees that have been with us all these years, and they enjoy going from one technology to another,” said Bujold. “We are now looking at where the industry will be in 2 – 5 years and are investing in Network Functions Virtualization, LTE-A, and other areas,” he added.
