What is status of LTE public safety network deployments?

Roughly twelve months after RCR Wireless News aired a LTE Public Safety Trends program on RCR TV (RCR Mobilist: LTE Public Safety Trends) and twelve years after 9/11, Jeff Mucci, RCR Wireless News Editorial Director, interviewed Chris Stark, NSN Head of Business Development, about the current status of LTE Public Safety trials.

During the interview, Chris shared his views on the key learnings from the following three FCC authorized LTE Public Safety pilot deployments:

  • 2012 Republican National Convention
  • 2013 Super Bowl
  • Des Moines, Iowa local municipality in conjunction with Cellcom, a regional cellular provider

“The next big milestone will be moving into the RFP stage for procuring either nationwide or localized LTE public Safety Networks” said Chris Stark. “One of the key takeaways from pilot program is that video is a key application in terms of quality and depth of first responder incident information available.”
