InfoVista acquires network optimizer Mentum

InfoVista has acquired radio access and backhaul network planning company Mentum, as part of its strategy to strengthen its market reach and offerings in the areas of network lifecycle and customer experience.

Mentum is a provider of RAN and backhaul network planning and optimization solutions, and has a market share that includes more than 100 LTE customers; InfoVista said that the acquisition brings “a combined user community of thousands of experts spread over 250 mobile operator customers in more than 120 companies.”

No financial details were disclosed. This is InfoVista’s first acquisition since the company itself was acquired by private equity investment firm Thoma Bravo in March. Mentum is headquartered in Paris and serves the wireless needs of verticals including railroads, utilities, the military, aviation and broadcasters, along with mobile networks.

Mark Mortenson, principal analyst at Analysys Mason, said that following on the heels of InfoVista’s recent introduction of a self-organizing networks solution, this acquisition “demonstrates its commitment to become a major player in providing hybrid SON. Incorporating real-time information and forecasted network intelligence into the RAN and IP transport planning processes will enable InfoVista to offer the accuracy and efficiency essential for optimized and just-in-time RAN and backhaul investments.”

Philippe Catherine, CEO of Mentum, said that the acquisition is a “natural evolution that aligns with the need for mobile operators to strike a balance between customer experience and capital efficiency triggered by the data explosion. It is clear to us that the disciplines associated with the management of the network lifecycle should be increasingly integrated to drive operational efficiencies; and this acquisition is a clear step in that direction.”
