Vodafone granted extension for potential Cable & Wireless purchase

Cable & Wireless Worldwide said it has extended a deadline for Vodafone Group (VOD) to announce its intent to purchase C&W until March 29. The original deadline for announcing its intent was end of today.

Vodafone confirmed last month that it was looking at a potential acquisition. If completed, the deal would provide Vodafone, which is the world’s second largest wireless operator behind China Mobile, with a significant wireline presence. Vodafone also owns a a 45% stake in Verizon Wireless, from which it recently received a $4.5 billion “distribution” payment. Cable & Wireless offers fixed telecommunications and IP services across 60 countries.
