The Brazilian carrier Vivo, owned by Spanish Telefónica, has had its commercial launch of the first HSPA+ network in Brazil. The telecom operator said Tuesday that it has deployed the technology to provide better quality and user experience with mobile Internet services, with speeds up to three times higher than currently available.
Until now, Latin America counted 25 HSPA+ networks in 17 countries. Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay were the most recent countries to launch the advanced network.
Vivo focused the implementation in the metropolitan area of São Paulo. Vivo’s 3G network throughout the country is already qualified for HSPA+. After the initial rollout in the state of São Paulo, the company is planning to extend business offerings with the technology to other states and regions.
The new commercial offer, named 3GPlus, offers a 10GB data plan and modem for U.S. $109 (R $ 199.90) monthly. The operator announced as well that subscribers of Telefónica’s fixed broadband business, called Speedy, will be offered a 50% discount on the Vivo plan, at $55 (or R$ 99.50) per month. For corporate customers, the package includes a modem and 8GB Internet plan.
Vivo leads Brazil’s mobile market with 29.6% market share, representing 68.6 million subscribers.
