Deutsche Telekom (DTEGY) is taking its machine-to-machine communications strategy seriously. So much so, that the German-based operator just inked an agreement with TeliaSonera (TLSNF) to extend global M2M roaming capabilities to Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Estonia and Lithuania. DT signed a deal with France Telecom’s (FTE) Orange business subsidiary earlier this year that covers M2M business in France, Germany, Belgium and Luxemberg, and now includes The Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
The multi-lateral deal with give multinational companeis the assurance they can roam across borders and still have a decent experience, DT said. “Continuous connection quality and network interoperability ensure M2M services for both machines and goods on the move (in the transportation and automotive industries, for example), and for customers whose business models require continuous access (eHealth providers, for example). So dedicated network supervision processes and interoperability are vital in leveraging the relatively low volume but highly critical data collected by these devices and delivering cutting-edge applications to users. ”
All M2M roaming servicees will have a dedicated support component to troubleshoot problems that could occur. The companies said they will also conduct joint testing to harmonize module standards.
DT has been a leader in driving the M2M space, and these pan-European deals are further proof the operator aims to be a preferred solutions provider in the emerging sector.
