Texas Instruments launches new wireless audio chip

Texas Instruments Incorporated (TXN) today announced its second device in the family of PurePath Wireless audio products which can be used for anything from consumer music players to mobile phones, to high end multimedia systems.

The multi-channel CC8530 radio frequency (RF) SoC for wireless headsets and multichannel home audio applications stays true to TI’s low power style at just 2.4 GHz.

The SoC can transmit uncompressed wireless audio over an RF link and support digital streaming for up to four audio channels.

To go with it, TI has also released a development kit and reference design (CC85XXDK-HEADSET) which it claims brings a 100% increase in battery efficiency to other current wireless headsets, boasting a full 22 hours of juice on a 465 mAh battery.
