Visa hints at 'significant' mobile commerce plans

Will Visa Inc. (V) have any surprises in store when it adopts a mobile commerce strategy? During an earnings call, the company’s CEO told analysts and investors that Visa would make a “significant” announcement about its global mobile commerce strategy as early as next week.
CEO Joseph Saunders declined to provide any details about the plan. Visa is “working with different types of entities,” he said, but added that it would not ink any partnerships that come “at the expense of our primary customers, the financial institutions.”
Earlier this week it was reported that Isis, a mobile commerce venture between three of the top U.S. wireless carriers, had scaled back its plans and is now focusing on a mobile wallet initiative. Isis has reportedly approached Visa, MasterCard Inc. (MA/a>) and others in an attempt to encourage them to jump on board with the now expanded mobile wallet plans.
