Alliances: Harris, NSN team for LTE solution; Qualcomm partners in India; and more

Harris Corp. (HRS) and Nokia Siemens Networks have teamed up to develop an LTE network solution targeted at public-safety markets. The VIDA Broadband LTE solution is a complete 700 MHz Broadband Long Term Evolution network solution that includes NSN’s LTE technology and is part of Harris’ VIDA (Voice, Interoperability, Data, Access) network platform for first responders. The VIDA network integrates VIDA Broadband LTE with P25 and OpenSky communication systems. Harris said the system meets FCC requirements under the agency’s National Broadband Plan as well as emerging security and survivability requirements and will support the FCC’s new Emergency Response Interoperability Center framework.
Virgin Media has partnered with Motricity (MOTR) to launch a service that provides one-click mobile access to social networks like Facebook, Myspace and Twitter. The service also provides access to popular e-mail services. Virgin Media offers the service through Motricity’s mCore Connect solution.
Mobile marketing solutions company Upstream said it extended its global partnership with Telecom Italia to deliver a solution to boost the carrier’s ARPU in Brazil. The company said it has been working with Telecom Italia for three years in Europe and South America.
Qualcomm Inc. announced Global Holding Corp. and Tulip Telecom Ltd. are the initial shareholders in the company’s India LTE venture. Qualcomm holds BWA spectrum in four telecom circles in India. Qualcomm will hold a 74% stake in the venture, with the other two companies each holding 13%. Global Holding provides network services to India’s mobile operators and owns a large neutral tower infrastructure in the country. Tulip is an enterprise data connectivity and service provider.
Nuance Communications (NUAN) said its full T9 predictive input portfolio will be integrated into ZTE‘s mobile handset portfolio. The agreement expands on a strategic global relationship the companies announced earlier this year that called for ZTE devices to ship with Nuance’s VSuite and Vocalizer speech technology.
NCM Media Networks said it formed an exclusive strategic alliance with JAGTAG, which provides mobile 2D barcode advertising, to offer cinema advertisers a new option for interacting with movie audiences using mobile devices. The NCM Interactive Network mobile advertising option, powered by JAGTAG’s mobile 2D barcodes, can make promotional items like box office handouts, posters and even concession packaging into interactive digital media. Customers can take a picture of the JAGTAG bar code and send it to a provided address via email or text to receive product information, coupons and other multimedia content.
Acme Packet (APKT) said China Mobile has chosen its Net-Net session border controllers for the carrier’s IP Multimedia Subsystem project. The product provides security and SIP session control features.
