Ublip goes to Numerex for M2M

Numerex Corp., which specializes in machine-to-machine technology, said it has acquired Ublip Inc., a privately held M2M software and services company, for a combination of cash and stock.
Numerex paid out about 400,000 shares of restricted Class A common stock and $300,000 in cash for Ublip.
Ublip’s infrastructure and software allow Web-based M2M applications to be created quickly, the company said. Numerex said the combination of Ublip’s technology with its own technology and infrastructure will create a resilient and reliable hosting environment for M2M solutions. The companies also said their joint offerings will allow third-party developers to build device-independent applications that can function in a variety of operating systems.
“Our mission to provide a full range of comprehensive M2M services to the industry is significantly advanced with the acquisition of Ublip,” said Stratton Nicolaides, CEO of Numerex. “We gain from an infusion of technology that includes middleware designed to simplify application development and deployment, and ‘virtual’ hosting architecture.”
Nicolaides also noted the acquisition brings experience to the company with the addition of Jeffrey Smith, founder and president of Ublip, who will become the company’s CTO. Smith currently holds a seat on Numerex’s board of directors, but he will resign that position effective immediate, said Nicolaides.
Ublip was merged into a wholly owned subsidiary of Numerex under terms of the acquisition.
