Obama to announce VP choice using text messaging

Barack Obama is using text messaging to keep his supporters informed of his choice of a running mate.
The Democratic presidential candidate’s campaign is sending notes to potential voters asking them to sign up to receive e-mail or text alerts notifying them of Obama’s choice for vice president.
“Sign up today to be the first to know,” said an e-mail from David Plouffe, campaign manager of Obama for America. “No other campaign has done this before. You can be part of this important moment.”
Obama has been swift to embrace text messaging as a way to expand its grassroots network and organize volunteers; fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton also leveraged the third screen during her campaign.
Republican John McCain has largely foregone the new platform, however, in favor of more traditional media.
